Annandale Improvement Club
Annual Activities Report
April 1 2005 March 31, 2006

Elected Officers included Kim Holmberg, President; Cindy Ahrens, Vice President; Sally Smith, Secretary; Julie Sedey, Treasurer.

Activities Overview

The beautification of Annandale and support of the library continue to be the clubs objectives.  We planted the garden rings and green areas, provided holiday wreaths and fall cornstalks and contributed to the purchase and maintenance of hanging baskets.  The club supported the library with the purchase of an additional computer and printer.  We continued our membership in the Friends of the Library.  In April, we participate in the Business Expo.  The fundraising committee sponsored a very successful boat tour of Lake Sylvia homes.  The member directory was updated and has proved to be a wonderful resource.  A summer picnic is now a regular event to be held on the second Thursday of July.  A regular August meeting has also been added to the schedule.

Increased awareness and donations were made of:

  • Womens and childrens undergarments and socks for the St. Cloud Womens Shelter.
  • Land O Lakes and Kemps milk caps, General Mills Box Tops for Education, winter hats and mittens, and personal hygiene items for our local schools.
  • Craft items for Camp Eastview .
  • Calling cards for Operation Uplink.
  • Valentines for Annandale Care Center residents.
  • Non-perishable food items for the Annandale Food Shelf.
  • Books and toys for Share Your Christmas.

Programs and Speakers

Syntregy Fitness shared fitness tips and discussed womens health issues.  Deb Lauer of Buffalo Skin Care provided tips for skin health and care.  Barb Olson addressed use of color in the home as well as home organization.  Sharon Gammel shared the history, stories, ghost sightings and services of the Thayer Bed and Breakfast.  Staff from the Great River Regional Library System reviewed the services, future plans, and programs of the library system.  A field trip was enjoyed by many members as they traveled to the Old Log Theatre to see Murder at the Howard Johnsons.  Steve Pavkovich of Bridging explained the services they provide and their need for donations.  Carrie Lindquist taught us about the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Program.  The Dawson sisters of Lambrecht and Bajari Gifts explained Fair Trade and its impact on crafters.

Membership

Honorary membership was presented to Mary Forney as she reached 50 years of club membership.  We were saddened by the death of honorary member, Julia Barkley.   We had 9 new members for a current total of 89 members.
