2002 Annual Report

THE YEAR (2001-2002) IN REVIEW

The September meeting included planning for the Women's Expo scheduled for October 5th,  but was tempered by concern for President Elizabeth Cabalka because of the serious decline in her husband's health. All activities were cancelled in October due to the tragic loss of Sandy Otto's grandson.  Co-vice president Sandy Miller carried on with the meeting in November.  Sandy Otto sent expressions of gratitude to all club members for their support and condolences.  The cancelled Expo was discussed and some expenses incurred were taken care of. Char Shadduck and her committee will take care of the Christmas wreaths for the city light posts, and plans were made for the bus trip in December.

The highlight of the December meeting was the announcement of the donation pledge for a new library from the family of Kathy Wenngatz.  President Elizabeth Cabalka returned for the meeting in January, following the loss of her husband Charles, and with zealous dedication to the library fund-raising events, many of which were discussed.  Elizabeth expressed gratitude for all the support and expressions of condolence, which she had received.  In February a group which had indicated interest in fund-raising reported their findings, and the Advocate will donate space bi-weekly devoted to focusing attention on the importance of the library and the fund-raising efforts.  There are plans for the Club to participate in the April Business Expo, and a book/bake sale is planned in July. The March meeting brought an announcement of a memorial donation to the Library Fund from the Keepers family, a communication tool donated by the Annandale Advocate for a weekly update of the Library fund-railing, and a library-fund project of the Lions Club to sell chances on a new Suburban which will be sponsored by the Improvement Club.  Marian Nelson devised blue ribbons available for a $2.00 donation to heighten awareness for the Annandale Library Fund.

At the April business meeting Marlene Dingmann was presented as secretary for the next term, Jill Bishop as treasurer, and there was approval for the continuance of the two co-vice presidents, Sandy Otto and Sandy Miller.  There was discussion of the importance of the Club's presence in the 4th of July parade.  On the bus trip in May the Club's booth at the April Business Expo was reported to have been a successful venture, and plans continue for the ice cream social in June and the book/bake sale in July.

During the year we have been saddened by the death of member Lois Cooper.  Three new members have been welcomed.  The focus on the new library plans has been heightened by the completion of the beautiful city hall building, the demolition of the old city hall building, and with it the opening of the grand space, which hopefully will be occupied by a wonderful new library building.

Respectfully submitted,
Ann Meuwissen, Secretary
