Heading: 1922 Building Too Good to Waste
According to reports in last week's Advocate, School Administration is planning
to demolish the 1922 Building. When this was last before the public a few years
ago, over 500 people formally stated they did not want this building demolished
and removed from community use. Sentiment has not changed and the opportunity is
now before us to again state the significance and importance of this building
which is part of the current Middle School. Although this building is currently
in poor repair, it is structurally sound and can be restored. This historic and
spacious building has served our community well for close to 100 years. As we
plan for the future community needs, this building can well continue to be an
important asset.
The School district is required by state law to conduct two public hearings
prior to closing a building. Those public hearings will be held October 15 and
29th at 7:00 p.m. in the Middle School Choir Room. We are proposing future
public visioning sessions that will allow our community to dialog about
potential use for this great space. The first step is making sure it is not
demolished...because once it's gone, it's gone. Your presence at these meetings
is important and you may also email the School Board Chair, Jeannette
Reiger-Borer at
