NEW LIBRARY BUILDING PROJECT
THE CURRENT LIBRARY The original Annandale Library opened its doors on Main Street in 1900, with 317 books provided by the charter members of the Annandale Improvement Club. In 1922 the library moved to the current building, previously used as a school. Today, the Annandale Public Library has a collection of 14,713 items, with access to additional resources through its affiliation with the Great River Regional Library System (GRRL). Roughly 9,300 patrons are served by the library, and Annandales circulation reached 36,500 in 2001. Due to serious space constraints, our library is no longer able to expand its collection except when retiring materials ("one in, one out"). Demand for Internet access has increased, yet our library has been unable to accommodate this growing need. The GRRL guideline for appropriate librarian operating space is 300 sq. feet; our library has 90 sq. feet. THE FUTURE LIBRARY The new library is located just east of the existing library, attached to City Hall. The City of Annandale will assume maintenance of the building once the project is completed. All books, media, technology, and staff will continue to be provided by Great River Regional Library. In addition to alleviating serious space constraints, the new library will provide tangible economic, cultural, and educational benefits to our community. Moving date is scheduled for June 7, 2003. YOUR OPPORTUNITY To support the library you may make a tax deductible donation, a lasting legacy to
your community. Questions? Please contact Librarian Sandy Otto, 320-274-8448, or any member of the Library Board:
