Annandale's library currently has more than 14,000 books and other items with access to many more through its affiliation with the Great River Regional Library. GRRL patrons with library cards may request materials to be delivered to Annandale's library from any of the 31 branch libraries of GRRL, and items from outside GRRL are available via inter-library loan.  Requests may be made at the library or online at www.griver.org, and materials are delivered daily.

Materials available through GRRL include:

  • Books (Nonfiction, Reference, Fiction, Young Adult, Children's, Large Print, Literacy Materials, Best Sellers)
  • Magazines
  • Newspapers
  • Music Cassettes
  • Spoken Word Cassettes Kits (book/tape)
  • Compact Discs
  • Videos (Information and Entertainment)

Great River Regional Library patrons also have access to Searchbank, a subscription magazine index.  This index, accessible from the Internet at the library or from your home, has over a million current articles to search magazines, reference books, and newspapers for information on current events, popular culture, the arts and sciences, sports, etc. Another database available to library card holders is the Health Reference Center. This database may be used to find articles on: Fitness, Pregnancy, Medicine, Nutrition, Diseases, Public Health, Occupational Health & Safety, Alcohol and Drug abuse, HMOs, Prescription Drugs, etc.

To access these databases, users go to the public GRRL home page at www.griver.org and enter a current GRRL barcode (the numbers on the library card), using all the digits in the barcode.  To apply for a library card, just present identification with current address information.

The original Annandale Library opened its doors on Main Street in 1900 with 317 books provided by the charter members of the Annandale Improvement Club. In 1922 the library moved to a building that was previously used as a school where it served the community until moving into the NEW Annandale Area Public Library on June 7, 2003. The Annandale Area Public Library serves roughly 9,300 patrons, and Annandales circulation reached 36,500 in 2001.

Our new library is beautiful and wonderful, but we still have some needs.
