Meeting Minutes - November 12, 2013

Co-President Cheryl Olson called the 2013 annual meeting to order at 7pm with 13 members present.

The minutes from the September 10, 2013 meeting were read with a motion to accept, MSP (Sally/Sandy).   Dean gave the Treasurer's report, $100 donation was included, thank you note sent. Report filed, subject to audit. 

Librarian Report

·         Carla thanks all the volunteers who helped with the door count in October.

·         Count Down Your Fines:  Young patrons were able to eliminate their library fines by reading at the library from Oct 14-19.  For every 15 minutes they read, their fine was reduced by $1.00.  A total of $61.00 was waived.

·         November/December Library Guide is available and includes upcoming programming.  Please note the "Bridging Cultures: Muslim Journeys, Points of View" article on page 14.

·         Connie Kuehn Memorial:  Stain Glass window should be installed in the children's area in the next two weeks.

·         Winter Reading Program:  Make Tracks to Your Library:  Jan 2 - Feb 22.  In addition to                        GRRL's prizes, the FOL will donate an Android tablet.

·         Tax Forms:  No longer available at the library, check Post Office or local tax office.

Old Business

• Community Read Project: “Unbroken" -   Coordinated by Sally, Kathy and Barb.  Good discussion by 25 readers involved in 3 groups.  Discussed selling the returned books at the library, $5 - $8.  Dean recommended ordering books through Hamilton Books catalog for future Community Reads in order to save on shipping costs.
• Author Dinner Update:  May 16th - William Kent Krueger. Check out his website.  Dean will take care of posters, tickets, etc.  Carla will add information to the GRRL website and advertising will be primarily the Community Read section of the Advocate.  Tickets are $25, dinner will be pork loin, rice, salad and dessert bars.
• Business Expo:  MSP (Sandy/Ron) to withdraw for this year, which includes not paying Chamber dues. 

New Business 

• 2014 Budget:  Presented proposed budget, some changes made, Cheryl will complete.
• Book Sale:  Discussion on elimination of non-fiction selections, better sorting, and creating a banner for Hwy 55 announcing "Book Sale Today".   Discussion to continue at April meeting.
• Reinstate membership fee:  MSP (Ron/Sandy) $5 annual fee, members will be notified in January, collection of dues in June of 2014.
• Election of 2014 officers:  MSP ( Sally/Sandy) re-election of present slate of officers:  Cheryl Olson/Julie Sedey as co-presidents, Dean Cheney as treasurer, Bonnie Gutzwiller as secretary.
• 2014 Meeting dates:  4/8, 6/10, 9/9, 11/11
