Meeting Minutes - May 20, 2008


Bonnie Gutzwiller called the meeting to order at 7 PM with 16 members present. MSP Jean/Ed to approve the amended minutes to the April meeting.  Treasurers report:  Balance to date is $5219.91.  MSP Sally/Ron to file report, subject to audit.

REPORTS

Childrens Programming-Dawn

-No report

Library Board-Cindy

-Next meeting is September 4,2008 at 4 PM.  Students are working on the poster contest to promote the summer reading program.  These will be judged by Carol Balfour and Charlene Schaefer with cash prizes awarded.  They will be displayed at the library.

Art Committee-Dawn

-No report

Publicity Committee-Ron/Cindy

-The ad appeared in the April 23 Advocate---very nice!! 

Librarian Report-Sandy

-Many school groups as the school year closes.  GRRL did a survey of bags of books delivered and picked up (19 in, 27 out).   It had been a quiet week!! 

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Business Expo Recap

-Worthwhile--sold some books, added a few new members and sold tickets for the author dinner.

Author Dinner Recap

-Successful and enjoyable.  A nice thank you from Faith Sullivan.  Good publicity, good food and great decorations!

Stan Tekiela-Loon Program, Wednesday, June 4th

-Sign up sheet passed around --need volunteers to set up, sell books, refreshments, and take down.

Book Sale-July 5th

-Sign up sheets sent around --volunteers needed for sorting Tuesdays (June 10, 17,24, July 1). Last day to drop off books is June 30th. Volunteers needed on set-up day--July 3rd.  Time to be determined after checking with the Senior Center.  Volunteers needed for sale day, July 5th from 8-2. 

August Story Time Project

-Sally has purchased books for this  project.  Needs volunteers to help out on the Tuesdays and Wednesdays in August, from 10-11.  Tuesdays at Eastview and Wednesdays at Elm Grove Park.

Dues

-Jean encouraged everyone to pay their dues--were about 50% paid.

NEW BUSINESS

Additional Fund Raising/Free Community Event Ideas

-Author Dinner next year will be on Friday, May 8, 2009 with Lorna Landvik

-Cindy has applied for a grant from the Minnesota Book Award Author Foundation.  They will award up to $500 for an event by a listed author, so she has contacted Mike Lynch, meteorologist at WCCO radio.  He has authored several weather-related books and is available to come on Wednesday, September 24, 2009 at 7 PM.  The event will be held at City Hall and will be free and open to the public.  MSP Ron/Sharon to sponsor this event, whether or not we receive the grant.

-Picnic with the Improvement Club on July 10th at Sandy Ottos.

Interest in Starting a Book Club

-Most members are already members of various clubs, so no interest in starting a new one at this time.
