Meeting Notes - August 5, 2004
AGENDA AND ACTION STEPS
* End of the Summer Reading Program party:
Will take place Saturday 8/14/04 from, 10-11am in the library unless the crowd
requires moving to the Senior Dining space. Michael Planer aka Michael the
Magnificent" will provide a 30 minute magic show for $20. (Sandy will pay
Michael from internal funds.) Barbara Jacobson will provide music and
stories. It was suggested to have FRIENDS stickers there. We need
volunteers: Muriel, Stephanie and Elizabeth volunteered.
* Volunteers: Elizabeth requested some
additional volunteers and provided a list of opportunities. Julie Sedey and
Diane Shoberg (calls) said the could help. Barb Lundberg showed us that
much of the furniture needed dusting. Ron Remington volunteered to dust.
* Treats: Sandy and Elizabeth asked the
group if they wanted to spend our FOL $ on treats for events. Group comments:
"Too soon after dinner. Treats unnecessary. Not the best use of our
limited funds. Often go to waste." After some discussion, we took a vote
and it was unanimous.
* Spring Author Event: Elizabeth has
written to Minnesota author, Leif Enger (Author, Peace Like a River) to
see if he could come in the spring and possibly be interested in a One
Book One Community program. No response yet. (Follow Up: Mr.Enger's office
called. A woman representing Mr Enger indicated he was not available for a
spring 2005 event but appreciated the invitation.) Elizabeth also
suggested Janis Amatuzio, author of Forever Ours would be an excellent
option. Local funeral director and new FOL member, Marlene Dingmann, says my.
Amatuzio is an EXCELLENT speaker. (Follow Up: Ms. Amatuzio has been
featured in the Star Tribune with glowing reviews about her book and speaking
ability).
* Stephanie's adventure: Stephanie shared
info about her upcoming year-long adventure Cairo. We all expressed our thanks
for all she's done for FOL and the library board, and wished her well.
* October Advocacy Event: Tuesday evening,
October 26th at 7pm at the City Hall.
* MLA Conference: Cindy is attending the
entire event. Elizabeth attending one day. (Update, Julie Sedey attended
instead of Elizabeth)
