April 22, 2004 Meeting Minutes

1. There were 15 attendees at the meeting; we did introductions around the table.
   
2. Garage Sale
   Donations to be dropped at City Hall on Friday, April 30, 1-6:00 p.m.clean and priced to sell. Sale runs Saturday, May 1, 8 a.m. 2 p.m.; volunteers needed from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and to pack up for donation/garbage. Sally Smith volunteered to deliver any "leftovers" to a charity and she has made up signs to post in library. Volunteer sign-up sheet was routed and will be kept by Sandy at the libraryshe will ask others to sign up for open time slots.
   
   Signage: Sally made signs announcing sale to post in library. Stephanie will make signs for the sandwich board. We have 2 signs supplied by garage sale sign up; Cindy will check at Dollar Store for more garage sale signs we can post. Need signs for book pricingPaperbacks 0.25; Hardcover 0.50. Need banner sign [Stephanie?] to announce half price at specified time during sale.
   
   Cindy checked with City there are no additional long tables, so well work with what is there for set up. Cindy will get the key and security codes for opening up Saturday morning at 7:00 a.m. In Hot Water will supply an airpot of coffee for the sale workers.
   
   Need bags (paper and plastic) for purchases; library will supply newspaper for wrapping breakables; need bagging/pricing assistants to work cashier table (Muriel will cashier). Need supply of Friends application forms to include with each sale [Stephanie will make copies].
   
3. End of Summer Party
   Due to longer dates of summer program, look at scheduling week of August 16, perhaps Wednesday evening, 8/18. Barb Jacobson will work with Sandy to schedule entertainment and activities for the party, perhaps try to book Michael Planer, young magician.
   
4. Membership Drive
   Volunteers needed to work on a membership campaign to begin by September 2004.
   
5. Advocacy Training
   GRRL is planning to schedule training in the fall, one site is to be Annandale. Awaiting date, will need to book community room, may need volunteers, serve refreshments, training will be offered to Friends, Board members, staff throughout GRRL system.
   
6. Author Event
   Looking at Spring 2005, fundraiser, dinner and author presentation, will need to advertise and sell tickets. Possible partner with Improvement Club. Decision for first event to highlight local authors Jill Bishop has a listing of local authors to be contacted, and will advertise as an "Annandale Authors Night".
   
   Cindy will contact Reichels for possible dates of Fridays, April 22 or 29, 2005; but need to check for Easter so there is no conflict.
   
7. Next Meeting: will book meetings for first Thursday of the month in future; next date is August 5, 7:00 p.m., to discuss needs for End of Summer Party.

Notes:

1) The Friends and Board have thanked library staff for all their work with a lovely pothos plant and certificates at In Hot Water (for breaks or lunch). Take a look at the plant (with birds and birdhouses), and personally thank our library staff.

2) The Annandale Advocate has been contacted about a photo op for the new Internet station at the library, purchased with proceeds from the Book & Bake Sale held earlier in the year by the Friends and Improvement Club. Watch for photo and article in Advocate week of May 3!
