Annandale Area Public Library - Friends meeting notes - March 11, 2004

Business Expo - April 3

Volunteers signed up to set up booth and to work the booth; more volunteers are still needed (contact Cindy 274-2712). Cindy & Stephanie will follow up and order the Friends banner (Library Board has approved up to $150 for a banner). Plans for the booth: candy to give away (Julie S. will purchase one bag; additional will be purchased), basket for the candy, list for those interested in Friends to sign up, print up "wish list" to display, library hours cards, bookmarks, GRRL brochures, Friends application forms, prize drawing (basket, slips of paper, pencils, prizes needed).

All-City Garage Sale - May 1

Cindy & Stephanie will work on a postal mailing to all Friends about the sale. Invite Improvement Club to donate items also. All items to be donated should be clean and priced (no clothing!). Request for volunteer to chair for the Friends, but no one offeredwill need to pursue. Will approach Library Board for funding for supplies (price stickers, signs, cash box, tablecloths, and Advocate advertising/fee to participate) probably up to $40 total cost. Further discussion at next Friends meeting.

Recommendations to Library Board for Purchases

Review of current Library fund balance and Friends revenue (thanks to Mark, City Administrator). After discussion of the several needs, it was determined that priority is:

Internet computer station, paperback rack, glider chair for childrens area, DVD collection. [Additional art hangers may already be taken care of by Library Board.]

Miscellaneous

Library Workers Day (first ever) is scheduled for April 20 during National Library Week. Will make suggestion to Library Board about some way to recognize the wonderful library staff on April 20. State legislative update from Cindy. Membership list was routed for review/updates. Cindy announced the Minnesota Library Association Conference is scheduled Oct. 6-8 in Duluth; Thursday, Oct. 7 is Friends/Trustee Day [anyone interested in attending should notify Cindy]. Friends Meet Friends report from Elizabeth Cabalka was shared with attendees and was briefly discussed. Librarian Sandy distributed volunteer forms, discussed the volunteer needs, and gave a tour of the Library.

Next Meeting: Scheduled for April 22, 7:00 p.m., at the Library. Agenda will include de-briefing on the Expo, and planning for the Garage Sale.
