Meeting Minutes
May 17th, 2012

Review of Agenda: No additions

Secretary’s Report:
Minutes from May 26, 2011 read and accepted as published. (MSP Sally, Barb)

City Report: No report

Librarian’s Report:
Carla distributed “Library Year in Review” which highlighted last year’s Summer Reading Program: 5 parents completed the baby program, 8 teens totaled 392 hours of reading, and the 3-12 year olds tracked 990 summer reading hours. The Winter Reading Program Jan 3rd - Feb 25th for adults resulted in 143 participants with 1680 books read.

-2012 Summer Reading Program: Dream Big Read 6/4-8/4.
FOL has funded prizes for program completion, and are also purchasing incentives for participation.
- Legacy Programming for 2012
Legislators allocated funds again this year to provide programs in communities throughout the state for the next 2 years.

Pachanga- June 23 at the Farmer’s Market
Charlie Roth - June 23 at Fairhaven’s Old Settlers

Diva’s Through the Decades - July 13 Concert in the Park
Magician- July 28 South Haven Days
Downtown Library Program - August 15
Minnesota Zoomobile will visit the Library August 22nd. This program is funded by High $5 Campaign dollars.

- Purchases:
Additional bins for adult and children’s music CD’s. Cost was covered by FOL and Improvement Club.

- Memorial: Pete Wilder and his daughter Judy Grabham donated a stained glass window for the library. Michael’s Stain Glass Studio will be installing the window in June. Plans are being discussed by the FOL to pay for completing the panorama now, and then allowing patrons to purchase windows later in memory of a loved one.

- Brandi Canter: Restructuring of library branches is 50% done. They have been able to equalize staff in the Region through attrition. The preliminary budget for this year has been presented, requesting bringing the dollar amount back up to the 2010 budget.

Brandi described the new circulation data program, and the training of branches to run the reports.

Brandi also commented on the good job Carla does spending the Legacy dollars. There will be a change to how the 2013 money is allocated, giving more dollars to the rural areas of the State.

 Mic Golden will be retiring after 29 years with GRRL.
 
Friends of the Library Report:
Bonnie reported that this year’s Author Dinner featuring Erin Hart will held Friday, May 18th. The Book Sale will be Saturday, June 30th. Book sorting starts June 5th, 9:30 in the morning. The next FOL meeting will be June 12th, to follow up on the Author Dinner and complete Book Sale plans.

Julie and Sally will be searching for a new board member to take Julie’s place.

The 2013 meeting is schedule for May 16th.
