Library Board Minutes
November 6, 2008


Members Present: Julie Olson, Karen Spiegeler, Bonnie Gutzwiller, Mark Casey (City), Sandy Otto (Librarian), Joan Allen (GRRL). Members absent: Idell Knudsvig, Cindy Ahrens, Joelle Artl, Julie Sedey, Dawn Schaefer Stumpf (Programming) 
 
Review of the Agenda: There were no additions 
 
Secretary Report: Motion MSP (Karen/Bonnie) to approve the minutes. 
 
Financial Report: Mark reported the balance remains at $1314.91. The picnic table donated by the City and placed on the sidewalk in front of the Library is working out well. 
 
Programming Report:  (Email in Secretarys book) Dawn reported by email that the $200 from the Friends for books to give away at the Holiday Event have been spent and the big box of books are hidden in her room, ready to be dropped off. The Community Favorites story times are going well. Sandy Otto was the last quest. Steve Niklaus and maybe Tracy Reimer from the schools will be on deck to read in Nov. The Police Dept. is on for December. Sheldon Brown is reading Mercer Meyer stories in January. Steve Prinsen will be in February, Mark Casey in March, and April and May are yet to be decided. There are many pictures of community people with their favorites hanging in the childrens area.  Students are again invited to hang their artwork in the Library. Dawn is working with Art Educators at all the buildings.  Mary Iverson will be Herselftheelf again, and Myron is on for Santa. Summer Story Time gift certificates for Dawns 3 helpers will be purchased with money from the Friends.

Librarian Report: (Full report in the Secretarys book) Sandy reported that there were 2 Story Times with 40 attending, Volunteers - 16 donating 112.75 hours, Non-GRRL computer (AIC) use 169, Donations from Friends (frames, clocks, sidewalk message board and candy for Halloween), and $500 from Annandale State Bank. Sandys list of books read is in secretarys book.  An additional Internet Station is needed. A motion was made MSP (Karen/Bonnie) to approve up to $500 with the understanding that the Friends and AIC will also be asked to share the expense. Sandy will check with GRRL to ensure technical support will be available.

GRRL: Joan thanked the Annandale Friends for their attendance at the Friends Meet Friends meeting in St. Cloud. GRRL Board meeting to discuss Sunday hours for St. Cloud by eliminating some evening hours. 
 
Friends of the Library Report: Bonnie reported that the last Friends meeting of the year will be November 18th and will include election of officers, approval of the 2009 budget, and plans for the upcoming April 18th Business Expo,

May 8th Author Dinner and July 3rd Book Sale. 5 members of the Friends met in St. Cloud on November 1st for a Friends Meet Friends meeting which included a tour of the new Library. 
 
New Business: Karen and Julie O will be looking for nominees for the office of President. Julie O will remain Vice President and Julie Sedey will remain as Secretary. 
 
The next meeting (annual meeting) will be May 7th.  Meeting adjourned.
