ANNANDALE IMPROVEMENT CLUB ANNUAL ACTIVITIES REPORT

June 2013-May 2014

 

 

Elected Officers:  Co-Presidents-- Cheryl Olson and Toni Boie; Co-Vice Presidents-- Peggy Jo Danielson-Fortner and Cathy Gulyas; Secretary—Sandy Holthaus/Ardis Nelson; Treasurer—Tara Partridge

 

Activities Overview:  Our summer plantings included our rings and gardens in town, at the park and the new city cemetery; fall cornstalks on Main Street were provided by a contact of Paula Thompson and the rings were filled with greens by the end of October. We had a booth at the Annandale Business Expo, we took a trip to Lake Minnetonka for a cruise in August and had a fund raising event, a Picnic in the Park. The AIC By-Laws were reworked and approved. A task force studied the feasibility of our acquiring a 501©3 status.  We are mid-stream in completing that process.

 

Donations: Children’s Grief Connection, Gold Star Family Weekend, Pioneer Park,  Eternal Red Thread Movement, Friendship Ventures, Annandale Youth First, Annandale Food Shelf, Share Your Christmas, Community Health Foundation, Wright County Gardeners, Hazelden, Annandale Area Community Team (ACT). 

 

Programs and Speakers:  June—Enjoyed a Salad Luncheon hosted by the AIC Officers at the Park Pavilion. July— Merilee Carlson shared the challenges and inspiration received due to her son's detain Iraq.  August—Enjoyed a Minnetonka Boat Cruise. September—Brittany Partridge spoke to us about domestic and international human trafficking. October—Suzanne Quinn-McDonald taught us about autism. November—Lee Anderson told us about the Road Scholars traveling program.  December--We celebrated the holiday at the Westman home on Lake Sylvia---a wonderful beginning to the holiday season. January—Healthy Eating was the topic discussion led by Julie Starke. February—Floral Design Made Easy by Cathy Gulyas and Judi Gay! March— We toured the Annandale Wellness Center and Stacy Besonen spoke to us about Chronic pain. April—Master Gardener Gary Cobus  talked to us about honeybees. May--Our annual meeting after which William Cope Moyers spoke about recovery from addictions.

 

Membership:   115 active members.  9 honorary members: Ruth Gruys, Donna Kaz, Donna Kuiper, Doris Miller. Donna Pertl, Muriel Rudolph, Mildred Shadduck, Alice Thompson, Jane Wizik.  Deceased members: Connie Kuehn, Joan Jorgenson, Ann Meuwissen
