ANNANDALE IMPROVEMENT CLUB ANNUAL ACTIVITIES REPORT

June 2012-May 2013

 

Elected Officers:  Co-Presidents--Sally Smith and Cheryl Olson; Co-Vice Presidents--Toni Boie and Peggy Jo Danielson-Fortner; Secretary--Sharon Peterson; Treasurer--Judy Seaberg.

 

Activities Overview:  Our summer plantings included our rings and gardens---and added gardens at the park and the new city cemetery.  Fall cornstalks on Main Street--and winter plantings in the rings completed the year.  We had a booth at the Annandale Business Expo.  We took a trip to the Old Log Theatre in July.  We contributed money for a Legacy Brick for the Clock Tower Project in downtown Annandale.  We had a fund raising event in August---Picnic in the Park--and held a No Bake Sale to boost our treasury.

 

Donations:  Sunset Ridges, Annandale Youth First, Pioneer Park, Camp Eastview, Children’s Grief Connection, Annandale Food Shelf, Anna Marie’s Shelter, Share Your Christmas, Annandale All Day Kindergarten Scholarship Fund, New Beginnings, Annandale Area Community Team (ACT). 

 

Programs and Speakers:  June--The ladies from Irish Cottage in Maple Lake told about the business of collecting and selling antiques; July--Bus trip to the Old Log Theatre--delightful!; August--Brian and Dana Dingmann presented an informative and sympathetic view of their grief camps for children and families.  Wonderful program; September--We toured the Annandale Food Shelf.  This is a very well-run, organized facility that is run by empathetic and dedicated volunteers.; October--Youth First directors and student volunteers presented a great program about their organization--and their goals for the future.; November--We learned tips on how to keep our skin young and lovely(!) no matter what age we happen to be.; December--We celebrated the holiday at the Westman home on Lake Sylvia---a wonderful beginning to the holiday season.; January--Mic Golden’s annual visit about books--one we always enjoy. She’s retiring (!) and introduced Jake Grussinger as her successor.; February--Yoga and you--we learned some low impact exercises to help keep us limber and healthy.; March--Jeff Herr, Annandale Chief of Police, gave us tips and information on how to anticipate and deal with safety issues.; April--Paula Thomson, Master Gardener, showed us how to improve our gardens--making them more beautiful and less labor intensive.; May--Our annual meeting.

 

Membership:  New Members:  Barbie Berg, Holly Bertelsen, Jan Delaney, Kathy Mader, Rose Mattson, Joan Peterson, Linda Shermock, and Paula Thomson, Judi Gay, and Carla Asfeld.  Sadly, we lost Jeanne Roth, Pearl McAlpin, and Connie Kuehn.
