Julia C. Barkley

Julia Barkley, 81, of Annandale died Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005, at the Benedictine Health Care Center, Minneapolis.  Funeral Services were held Saturday, Nov. 26, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Annandale with Rev. David Doppenberg and Deacon Mark Pedersen officiating. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery, Annandale.  

She is survived by four children and their spouses, Dayton and Nancy of Plymouth, Blaine and Diane of Annandale, Dean and Sue of Plymouth, Mary Barkley Brown and Sheldon Brown of Maple Lake; sister, Mary (Mark) Pedersen of Grinnell, Iowa; 14 grandchildren, Kate, Anne, Melissa, Susan, Kim, Darren, Allison, Emily, Tim, Garrett, Brooke, Matthew, Andrew and Graham; and five great grandchildren.    

She was preceded in death by her husband; infant son, Bruce Allen; infant sister, Jeanette; and sister, Elizabeth Winger.  

Julia Caroline Graham Barkley was born May 26, 1924, in Colome, S.D. to Sandy and Gertrude (Smalley) Graham. She married Dayton A. Barkley in March of 1943 and he preceded her in death on Sept. 13, 1978. Julia was an interior designer and artist and along with her husband owned and operated Dayton’s Furniture Store, Annandale from 1949-1978. She was a member of St. Mark’s Corinna Episcopal Church, the Red Hat Society, and was a board member of Minnesota Pioneer Park. She was a former member of the Governor’s Residence Council, Annandale Housing and Redevelopment Authority, and lifetime member of Annandale Improvement Club.
