ARTS & CULTURE
MEETING NOTES
September 5, 2006

1.  The 2006 Summer Concert Series was reviewed.  Dawn is working on completing the 2007 bookings.  The group discussed a number of musical groups.  A big thank you to Dawn, her husband Jim, Wendy Webb and Char and Zane Schaefer for all the great work they did on the summer concert series.  the concerts were well attended and the groups did a great job.

2.  Dawn is working on revising last years grant request to the Central MN Arts Board.  She will be looking at submitting that prior to due date.  She will need a couple of people to proof it.  Any volunteers?

3.  The Bootleggers Banquet was discussed.  Approximately 100 people attended.  Approximately $4,600 was raised from the event.  A big thank you to all who worked so hard on this event.  The group discussed whether to hold a similar event next year and it was decided to do so.  The theme will be the 1950's.  Locations were discussed.  Any thoughts please bring them to the next meeting.

4.  Downtown Art Crawl.  This event was discussed as it has been held the last two years.  People have been asking about the event wondering if it will occur this year.  the group decided to sponsor the event.  Wendy will work on posters that will need to be posted around town and at businesses.  This is a free event that will be held on Thursday October 5 from 6-8 p.m.  Approximately 5 downtown locations will host artists and musicians.  So far we have:
ARTISTS                         MUSICIANS
Jeff Kohl (pencil/photo)                        Sharon Planner
Susan Hankerson (watercolor)          ?
Carol Balfour(photo)                  Tory Schaefer
Opal Oleson (watercolor)                  Ardis Nelson and Becky Unger
?                                     ?

We want at least 5 locations we can manage up to 7.  Any more and it is hard for people to get to each one before the time is up.  It would be great to have a potter display, anyone have a connection that they want to set up?
Continue to check with your sources both artists and musicians.  Call me prior to our meeting on Thursday if you book someone in.  274-3889.

5.  Finances:  This summer between the Petals and Palate Garden Tour and The Bootleggers Banquet we have earned approximately $5,700 towards next years concerts and the sound system.  As a point of reference, the summer concerts this year were $4500.  The sound system will cost anywhere from $1,000- $3,000.

6.  HOLIDAY HOME TOUR FUNDRAISER.  This idea was discussed as an event that would focus on the art of home decor.  The event would ideally occur the weekend prior to Thanksgiving in order to avoid the hectic weeks before Christmas.  We are also considering Saturday Dec. 2. We need a strong group to volunteer to work on this event.  There are people asking us if we would do something like this but it is a commitment of time.  We have approximately 3 locations for sure and would need approximately 3 more.  Please email me your thoughts.

7.  NEXT MEETING IS THIS THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 21 FROM 5-5:45 P.M. AT THE SNOOTY FOX GALLERY.

8.  Laura asked if anyone else wanted to be the chair of the group.  Those in attendance declined.  Let me know if any of you receiving this email are interested.  I certainly do not want to be greedy.

Respectfully Submitted
Laura Hood Beckman
