MEETING NOTES
April 6, 2006
ACT Arts and Culture April 6 Meeting Minutes
PRESENT: Laura, Ed, Wendy, Dawn, Dick, Charlene, Sherry, Ardis,
Ken, Carol
1. Charlene, Wendy and Dawn agreed to work at the
Business Expo ACT Booth representing Arts and Culture. Laura will create
a post card size handout with the summer concert series and fundraising event
dates to pass out at the Expo.
2. Reviewed final version of letter that Sherry Sweetnam
has been working on to mail out to area Chambers of Commerce, Cities and
Lion's Clubs. We discussed using a 30 mile radius. Jeff Lundquist
had volunteered to get the names/addresses for Sherry.
3. Discussed the Visioning Session that had been
scheduled for 4/20 and the group agree to postpone until next fall.
4. Discussed the Central MN Arts Board grant application that
was rejected on a technicality. A big thanks to Dawn Schaefer Stumpf for
her excellent work on this grant. It will be ready to submit again the
next round. A discussion regarding funding the summer concert series.
Corporate sponsorships by area business will be explored to underwrite the
cost of each concert for 2006. Two fundraisers are currently being
worked on: Garden Tour July 8 and Dinner/Dance/Silent Auction August 5.
5. Ed brought to the meeting questions regarding the
wording in the Portable Performance Stage policy/contract. Pioneer Park
had encountered questions regarding the "maintenance fee" of $50 per
hour. Discussion was held that this language does not explain the fee as
clearly as it could. Ed suggested that for groups within the city limits
perhaps the rental fee should reflect also the $50 per hour set-up/take-down
(which is in essence the "maintenance fee") to avoid confusion.
His point was that events with-in the city limits would not have fee's that
would exceed one hour of time and so to combine the two dollar amounts would
seem simpler. Ed agreed to meet with Mark Casey at the City of Annandale
to discuss. All agreed that the stage was worth renting. Ed
commented how well the stage worked for the events at Pioneer Park.
6. Power to the end of the city park was discussed.
Jeff Lundquist is following up with Mark Casey on making sure that adequate
power is available.
7. A presentation was given by Loren Bartelt of Kingdom
Sound and Lighting. This company has owned and rented out a
portable performance stage similar to ours. He gathered information from
us on our needs and will put together a few potential speaker/sound system
packages to consider. Loren can be reached at 952-894-0871 if you have
questions. Sound systems will range from $500-4,000.
8. The concert dates/groups/time has been given to Chuck
Sterling at the Advocate. Don Gadow is willing to write articles about
the groups to submit to the paper prior to each performance. Dawn
Schaefer will send information to Don Gadow regarding each group so he can
begin. The Advocate is willing to do an article in the Summer Guide
about ACT and the Portable Stage/Summer Concerts.
9. Next meeting is Thursday May 4th, 5-6 p.m. at The
Snooty Fox Gallery.
10. The next Garden Tour Meeting is April 13 at 4:30 p.m.
11. The next Dinner/Dance/Silent Auction Meeting is April
20 4:30 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted
